State of the Cowboys

NOTE: I started writing this on Tuesday, but blogger wouldn't let me post it. So, these are my thoughts from a couple of days ago and I'll post an update at the bottom.

Alright, I must admit the last 48 hours as been tough as a fan of the Cowboys.

First, they get beat in OT by the Cardinals. I didn't get to see any of the games and I'm glad I didn't waste my time and DVR it. I did see the highlights or maybe I should say lowlights. The first time in NFL history a game has ended in OT on a blocked punt.

Now, comes the news yesterday.....Romo is out for at least 4 weeks with a broken pinkie on his throwing hand. I like Romo O.K., but I don't think this is the end of the world. When Brad Johnson took over for a injured Daunte Culpepper when he was with the Vikings a couple of years ago, the Vikes went 7-2 with Johnson at the healm. The offense will be alright.

WR Sam Hurd out......initially I was worried about receiver depth, but I'll address that later.

Punter Mat McBriar out for the year or out 6-8 weeks depending on what media outlet you watch.....Mat's a great punter, but that's a position that you can fill pretty easily.

RB Felix Jones out 2-4 weeks with a hamstring injury....this one will hurt. He's a good change of pace back and a good kick returner. I hope he is only out 2 weeks.

CB Adam Jones suspended indefinitely....I'm disappointed about this. One, with Terrance Newman out the Cowboys are horrifically thin in the secondary. Secondly, he was given a golden opportunity that many would love to have and he squandered it. Honestly, I hope the Cowboys cut their losses when the suspension is over. He's not reliable from the standpoint that you never know when he will get suspended. I'm a man of grace. I hope he does right and becomes a solid citizen. Right now, though, I hope that is for another team.

Now for the good news....well maybe...Roy Williams is now a Cowboy. Actually, the Cowboys have two Roy Williams. There's the Roy Williams who played for Oklahoma and has been a Cowboy since coming into the league and there's THE Roy Williams who played for Texas and has been a standout receiver for the Detroit Lions. I like the move, but wish we didn't give up so many draft picks for him.

Update: Crazy week for sure. The news came out today that Romo participated in practice and wants to play. In fact, ESPN stated tonight that Jerry caught a few passes from him and said he had good velocity on them. I'm optimistic for this weekend especially with the game being against the Rams.
